They made the Vivo V40 official some time ago in Europe. But its initial launch was so low-key that they had to reintroduce it globally again. The vanilla model and the Vivo V40 Pro are out for a global tour once more And this time, they are doing it properly.
V40, after its very restrained European rollout, has reached India, and it has taken the stage alongside Vivo V40 Pro. Both V40s will start retailing there before reaching other markets. Of all the V series phones before, these are the closest ones to what we consider flagship killers.
Vivo V40 Pro
The performance section is what separates them. V40 Pro ranks high with a Dimensity 9200+. One year old at this point, but it is still a flagship engine of 2023. It’s way better than the Dimensity 8200 they slipped into V30 Pro last time. 8/256 GB, 12/256 GB, or 12/512 GB are the options it brings along.
To the surface, both Vivo 40s get the same treatment. There’s a 6.78” AMOLED panel that rides up front, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, and we have a resolution of 2,800 x 1,260 pixels. They hit 4500 nits brightness under specific conditions, and more importantly, both phones have a 50 MP selfie unit in their screens.
For the V40 Pro, three of Sony’s top-notch 50 MP cameras lie on a circular island. 50MP Sony IMX921 sensor is the first, a 50 MP telephoto portrait Sony IMX816 sensor is the second, and the third is a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. 5500mAh battery keeps the phone running, and 80W fast charging gives backup. V40 Pro starts at about $655 (~PKR 182,000).
Vivo V40
This standard option doesn’t stray far from the Pro. It gets the latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Close in processing and close in gaming, this SoC makes perfect sense for the non-Pro V40. This one ships with 8/128 GB, 12/256 GB, and 12/512 GB combos.
V40 is also a curved AMOLED 6.78” phone, doing 4500nits peak brightness. There’s an identical 1260 x 2800 pixel count and a 120Hz refresh rate. Embedded into that panel, get a fingerprint ID and a 50 MP selfie unit in a punch hole. Plus, they have a tight seal on the chassis, making them IP69 waterproof.
50 MP ultra-wide and 50 MP primary units lay on the back. It misses out on a telephoto. V40 touches base with the same 5500mAh cell and up to 80W charging. And inside, we have Funtouch OS 14 x Android 14 in command of the OS. Vivo V40 costs $100 less at $550 (~PKR 153,000), but the compromise is a flagship SoC and telephoto camera.
