Vivo is reportedly entering the foldable race following the recent Oppo Find N. The rumor mill has given us hints and clues of the upcoming Vivo X Fold. But ahead of its expected launch, the device was caught in the wild. The photo in question showcases the X Fold’s front design.
The Vivo X Fold was photographed in public and published on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. It’s encased in a hefty cover to keep it hidden from prying eyes. But foldable phones are rare enough to attract attention. It’s built on the same form factor as the Galaxy Z Fold which is currently available at a premium Samsung price point. The new X Fold, however, appears more streamlined and polished.
The most striking feature of the flexible display is its distinct lack of a crease. Almost every foldable on the market (excluding the Oppo Find N) has a conspicuous furrow running right above the hinge, and it’s even more noticeable when seen under direct sunlight. Vivo seems to have borrowed the engineering solution from Oppo to avoid this issue because the Vivo X Fold unfolds into an almost perfectly flat surface.
We may not see the handset joining the Vivo price catalog in Pakistan but it could end up circulating for the hands-on sessions. It’s also worth noting that Vivo has hidden an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner (the kind that uses sound instead of light to detect patterns) under the primary and cover displays. The feature will make the X Fold the first foldable to rock a hidden scanner. All current models utilize instant physical sensors.
Lastly, Samsung supplies the Vivo X Fold display. It has a squarish aspect ratio, uniform bezel, 2K resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate. The OLED panel features LTPO technology that dynamically adjusts the refresh rate and saves power.
