Vivo Y20 Signed off and Benchmarked; Might Arrive with the Gaming-focused Snapdragon 460

Vivo has been prolific with new releases this season — budget and mid-range alike — and to keep that train going, the Chinese smartphone maker is gearing up to introduce the successor to last year’s Y19, titled Vivo Y20. While the company has yet to make an official announcement, the Y20 has been approved by the Indonesian certification authority and benchmarked by Geekbench, suggesting it may well be on its way in the coming weeks.

Reported and published first by an emerging blog, ‘Dealntech’, the Geekbench listing reveals some keynote specifications for this upcoming lower-mid-range Vivo. Codenamed ‘Bengal’, its motherboard features a Qualcomm-manufactured processor clocked at 1.8GHz with eight cores and 4GB of RAM.

Now the processor itself isn’t specified but based on speculation, it could be the Snapdragon 460 platform. Another promising candidate would be the Snapdragon 662 — although it can be ruled out as it is expected to be a budget device at an affordable Vivo price point.

A closer inspection of the source of code yields a few solid pointers — which all but confirm the Snapdragon 460 processor. Both the clock rates for its 4x4 configuration and the Adreno 610 GPU buried in the code, strongly favor the 460 System-on-Chip. Qualcomm announced it earlier in January and it’s aimed at gaming on a budget, but the platform has yet to go mainstream.

Now for the benchmarking scores. Listed under the model number ‘Vivo V2027’, the Y20 managed to 252 points on its single-core and 1,239 on its multi-core test — undoubtedly typical for a phone in its price bracket. Vivo ships the device with the latest version of Funtouch OS firmware (built on Android 10). We’ll have more details for you as the rumor mill churns out further leaks or once Vivo launches its teaser campaign.
