Making it to the global stage back in December, Vivo Y29 was announced as a 5G device with Dimensity 6300. The idea of it reaching Pakistan seemed far-fetched at the time, but we bring good news for the local market now. Vivo Y29 4G showed up out of the blue in Bangladesh yesterday, and it’s a sign of nearing Pakistani launch as well.
If Vivo decides to expand the Y29 4G to more regions, and knowing the company it will, Pakistan might be one of the countries receiving it soon. And since all of its specs are officially out of the covers, you get an early preview of what the device looks like and its key specifications.
Right out of the gate, you’ll notice that the 4G variant comes with a new design with an enlarged camera island on the back. This phone has Noble Brown and Elegant White finishes, matte rear panels, and glossy side rails, coming together in a premium-looking chassis.
Up at the front, the new Vivo Y mobile looks rather ordinary, seeing that it has a mid-size 6.68” panel only with an HD+ 720p resolution. It’s an IPS panel just like the 5G sibling, and Vivo also pushed its panel to around 1000 nits peak brightness and 120Hz refresh rate to make up for its weak resolution.
This is also an IP64-rated handset, waterproof and safe from the elements. Vivo Y29 4G even has a military standard MIL-STD-810H compliant shockproof chassis, which means it has a semi-rugged build they call Anti-drop Armor Design.
Because the Y29 4G is new to the scene, it has an advantage over the 5G model with the latest Android 15 x FunTouch OS 15. Vivo even gave it a bigger 6500mAh battery to sweeten the deal, albeit it gets us the same 44W charging speed as the original handset. So far, so good.
The SoC used with this phone is a bit old: a Snapdragon 685. It handles the system at 2.8GHz clock speed, and the multitasking is handled by 6-8 GB RAM, plus 128 GB to 256 GB ROM is used for storage. This hardware combo should still allow a smooth user experience.
On the rear side, The cameras on the descendant of Vivo Y28 are 50 MP + 2 MP. Flipped to the front, its selfie unit is 8 MP. The Vivo Y29 LTE has multiple AI features but no NFC support or a 3.5mm jack. Still, the essentials include dual speakers and a side Fingerprint reader. Its official starting price is $165 (~PKR 46,000).
