Over the weekend, Vivo launched the Y51s in Pakistan. And with it, Vivo’s naming scheme continues to confuse. If you keep track of Vivo releases, it’s not the Vivo Y51s released in China last year. The Pakistani variant is the Y51 (2020) that came out last month, but with the chipset replaced. Also, not to be mistaken for the Y51 (2020) they launched in September.
While the December 2020 variant used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, which launched in 2019, the Pakistani Y51s is a successor to Vivo Y51 and has the newer Snapdragon 662 (the names aren’t chronological.) The chipset is new but not the most value-friendly. Xiaomi’s POCO M3 and Redmi 9 Power offer the same mobile platform for a much more affordable price.
The phone has a 5000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Vivo promises up to 70% charge in just over an hour. 8GB of memory handles multi-tasking, and the internal storage is 128GB. The fingerprint scanner doubles as the power button. Vivo Y51s also has a 3.5mm headphone port accompanying the mono speaker.
On the back of the Vivo Y51s, a triple-camera system is mounted in a ‘big eye’ layout — the primary one on top, and the secondary cameras side-by-side. It’s led by a 48MP camera that features an f/1.8 lens. A wide-angle 8MP camera and a 2MP macro lens join it. The Y51s supports two dedicated night modes and comes at an affordable Vivo mobile price.
Flip the Y51s by Vivo over to find a 6.58” screen and a tear-drop notch bleeding into it. This housing features a 16MP, f/2.0 camera. And the display underneath is an IPS LCD that peaks at 1080P and fills a tall 21:9 aspect ratio.
The Vivo Y51s comes in Titanium Sapphire and Crystal Symphony. And it starts from Rs. 39,999.
