Vivo seems to be dropping a new Y-series phone every other day now. The latest in this line of budget phones is the Y54s, a sequel to the Vivo Y53s already available in Pakistan. It was unveiled yesterday in China, where it’s available in stores. Vivo Y54s is a standard entry-level phone, except it supports 5G networks.
Like many of these affordable phones, the Vivo Y54s 5G rocks a mediocre display. We’re looking at a 6.51” notched IPS LCD screen. It peaks at 720P in resolution without a high refresh rate. The specs are a downgrade from the Y53s 5G that came out this year with a 1080P and 90Hz display.
The camera system is equally unremarkable. Vivo Y54s 5G has two cameras on the back — one 13MP wide and the other 2MP portrait. Embedded inside the notch is a modest 8MP selfie camera. It’s arranged in a ‘cyclops eye’ layout over a raised squarish plate.
Vivo phone prices are well-balanced, providing value for the money spent. Though a 5G handset, Y54s shell is still plastic, rounded, and flat. It’s 8.5mm thick and weighs 188g. The frame includes a 3.5mm audio jack and a side-facing thumbprint reader. Face Unlock is also available (but the 2D kind, not advanced 3D.) You can choose from duotone blue and graphite shades.
MediaTek Helio Dimensity 700 is the engine inside the Vivo Y54s. It’s built on a 7nm process node that makes it more efficient. Vivo has paired it with 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage and 6GB of memory. Everything runs on a 5000 mAh battery and 18W fast charging support. Vivo Y54s starts at ~ PKR 46,000.
