Vivo hits the mid-range smartphone market yet again, this time with a modern-day semi-premium phone dubbed Vivo Y78+. Following a prolonged leak session, the device finally goes official, confirming many of the anticipated specifications. Have a look.

Vivo Y78 Plus is style-centric, with a sleek build complemented by a curved display, a large camera island, and a thinner profile. Its 6.78-inch behemoth screen flaunts a high 120Hz refresh rate, 1300 Nits of impressive brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color range, and a Full HD+ resolution with 20:9 AR.

A punch hole cutout on top of the screen houses a selfie shooter of 8MP resolution. Similarly, two enormous glass rings on the back feature a 50MP alpha sensor with hardware OIS and a 2MP depth mapper/portrait assistant. Although the primary lens boasts more than enough pixels for a 4K video output, the phone’s chipset bottlenecks the resolution to 1080p.

Vivo’s new 5G model has a sleek and sophisticated design reminiscent of a high-end flagship phone; however, under the hood, it implements a mediocre Snapdragon 695 SoC — an average performer at best in the current smartphone landscape.

Despite its drawbacks in core performance, Vivo Y78+ more than makes up for it with LPDDR4X RAM 8-12GB and a UFS 2.2 storage module of 128-256GB. In addition, the phone brings 8Gigs of extended virtual RAM. The default OS on which the phone operates is an Android 13-based OriginOS 3, exclusive only to the Chinese variants.

The battery pack inside the phone is standard 5000mAh, sporting up to 44W extreme charging speed via USB Type-C. With three stunning gradients in Blue, Yellow, and Black, the phone starts at 1,600 Chinese Yuan, converting to approximately 230 USD or 64,000 PKR.
