Xiaomi dropped their latest Xiaomi 12 line in December. But it hasn’t closed out the series for the year just yet. The upcoming Xiaomi 12 Lite edition will soon round off the flagship series.
Per Xiaomi-centered publication XiaomiUI, the Xiaomi 12 Lite bears the codename “L9 taoyao.” The report also included two press images of the phone. Xiaomi has perfectly streamlined the design with the three identical-looking Xiaomi 12 phones. And that design language extends to the Xiaomi 12 Lite too. If not for the different dimensions, you could not tell the Xiaomi 12 models apart.
The Xiaomi 12 Lite screen curves along both edges, flanked on all sides by razor slim bezels. We’re looking at a 6.55” OLED panel filling a tall aspect ratio. A single hole is punched through its center to contain the front camera.
The casing similarly curves, featuring a single-tone matte gray finish. Xiaomi phone price is still a mystery. As far as the main camera is concerned, the three lenses and an LED flash are housed inside the neat rectangular protrusion. Its shell seems to be polycarbonate, while the more premium Xiaomi 12 editions are crafted from tough glass.
We find flagship chips inside the Xiaomi 12. But the budget Xiaomi 12 Lite settles for a mid-range Snapdragon 700 series chip. The rear camera cluster uses a 64MP Samsung-made image sensor paired with an ultra-wide and a low-res camera. No advanced optical stabilization is offered either.
