So far, the Xiaomi 12 series has only been featured in unofficial reports and rumors. But Xiaomi officially kicked off the teaser campaign for the Xiaomi 12 yesterday. We also have the launch timeline and some early previews.
Xiaomi unveils its next flagship series on December 28, at 7:30 PM local time. The event will be live-streamed on Xiaomi’s social media pages. The Xiaomi 12 line is dropping in China before heading to the global market, based on previous release calendars.
Xiaomi 12 comes in three editions: Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. It’s not listed in the promos, but the teasers were posted through Xiaomi 12 phones. The Xiaomi 12X is a new arrival for the Xiaomi flagship family. And there’s no mention of a Xiaomi 12 Ultra anywhere. So it’s unclear if it’s been given a new name or if Xiaomi plans on introducing it later down the line.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is at the heart of Xiaomi 12 phones. It gives incremental, iterative upgrades over the last-gen Snapdragon 888. Xiaomi puts the gains at 10%. Pre-release benchmarks also reflect a similar improvement in performance.
Xiaomi also showcased the two screen sizes for the Xiaomi 12 series. The Xiaomi 12 has a more compact footprint this year. It’s contrasted with the iPhone 13 — The upcoming Xiaomi New 12 model is narrower and fits more screen real estate inside by trimming the bezel. The Xiaomi 12 Pro display has mild curves along the edges. We find O-holes punched through the middle of both screens. Also, note that the Xiaomi 12 displays are rated A+ by DisplayMate. You would expect nothing less from a premium flagship phone.
