Redmi has been working on a new budget phone behind the scenes, and now that an overseas regulatory body has cleared it, we can talk about it with credence. Redmi A5 and its rebranded Poco C71 sibling have been green-lit by BIS authority. These devices are declared for imminent release.
BIS listed both these devices while updating its directory some moments ago. Redmi A5 was indexed as model code 25028RN031. Poco C71 is believed to be its rebranded variant because it showed the same model number except for the letters “PC” in the middle. Poco C71 is listed as model 25028PC03I.
Every detail revealed in either certifications or leaks speaks for both these devices since they share a common specs sheet and the model number. Redmi A5 is a 4G LTE model with your typical roundup of essentials, like the WiFi 5 dual-band antennae, Bluetooth, and NFC in some regions.
These Xiaomi Poco new models will use Android 15 and Hyper OS 2.0 out of the box for obvious reasons, and while it wasn’t confirmed by the certification, reports suggest that we’ll see plenty of variety in storage options. At least four choices, starting at base 3/64GB and going all the way up to 6/128GB.
Redmi A5 will use the predecessor’s spec sheet as the base for its upcoming upgrades. These are the specs of Redmi A4 5G for context. This old variant was massive, as its IPS display stretched to a 6.88” diagonal size with a 120Hz refresh rate. But its resolution was only HD+.
What ran the Redmi A4 5G was a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, which may be among the cheapest entry-level 5G-ready chips a company can buy. That circular camera topology had two lenses and a flash with a 50 MP primary lens, snapping the pictures. The phone’s front camera was a 5 MP shooter. It’s safe to say that photography on A4 5G was a mixed bag.
Xiaomi’s Redmi A4 was given a 5160mAh battery plugged into an 18W charging kit. With a few upgrades to the existing spec sheet, the Redmi A5 has a chance to become the next budget king, and by relation, the Poco C71 as well. While the Poco C75 price in the local market hovers around PKR 32,000, we’ll have to wait for more details before ascertaining the full picture. Stay tuned for more updates on Redmi A5/Poco C71.
