The freshly-minted brand POCO’s first offering for 2020, the POCO X2, has finally gone official, following weeks of teasers and leaks. As WhatMobile had previously predicted, the X2 is a rebranded Redmi K30, down to every last detail. But since POCO is now an independent brand, we should see their own original releases too in the coming months.
Let’s start with the Xiaomi Poccophone X2 design. The flagship features a vertically stacked quad-camera setup that itself is housed inside a circular reflective patch -- perhaps to highlight the lenses themselves. It’s a fresh approach, considering most camera layouts with quad-cameras have been played out already.
The rear X2 shell sports a polished and glossy look in Matrix Purple, Phoenix Red, and Atlantis Blue colors and is bare save for the POCO branding and an LED flash. The fingerprint reader is mounted on the side, and it doubles as the power button.
The RealityFlow display of Poco X2 measures 6.67 inches, produces an FHD+ resolution and delivers an extreme 120 Hz refresh rate for a smoother, better UI experience. It also features a pill-style punch-hole cutout with a twin-selfie-camera. You also get a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer and P2i Splash-proof Coating for added protection.
You’re looking at a 20 MP + 2 MP in-display selfie camera combination and a 64MP Sony IMX686 shooter, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, a pair of 2-megapixel depth and macro sensors mounted on the back.
Under its hood, the POCO X2 has a Snapdragon 730G chipset at its heart, and an 8 GB + 256 GB memory combination. And to power this robust hardware, especially when the screen is delivering a 120 Hz refresh rate, the phone packs a 4500mAh cell, alongside support for fast-charging. To augment performance, POCO X2 uses liquid cooling (as did the Pocophone F1 from 2018). So if you wanted a phone that blends a performance-oriented design with great looks on a budget, the X2 fits the bill.
Finally, the internals run on an MIUI 11, layered on top of Android 10. The 8 GB variant will set you back $239 or 37,000 Pakistani rupees (without taxes) and the slightly more affordable 6 GB variant bears a Xiaomi price tag of $225 or 35,000 PKR.
