The Redmi 10 is an upcoming series of value phones from Xiaomi which has been making headlines in recent weeks. A definitive launch timeline has yet to present itself, but the brand prematurely published the official promos for the Xiaomi Redmi 9 successor in a press release. It details the design and specs for the latest Xiaomi budget phones.
The blog post featuring the Xiaomi Redmi 10 has since been taken down, but not before several media outlets had already picked up on it. Whether it was an honest accident or a ploy to generate hype, the leak is only missing the availability and pricing.
Redmi 9 series was the first to popularize 1080P screens for the entry-level segment. The Redmi 10 series goes a step further, introducing a 90Hz display. We’re looking at a 6.5” Full HD hole-punched panel, toughened with Gorilla Glass 3.
Through AdaptiveSync, the new Xiaomi mobile for 2021 can switch between 45Hz, 60Hz, and 90Hz to save power. If last year’s Redmi 9 is any guide, we should see 90Hz go mainstream soon. Xiaomi is also using a much more powerful chip to drive this resource-hungry feature.
Instead of the Helio G35, the Redmi 10 series will be the first to debut with the MediaTek Helio G88. It’s all powered by a 5000 mAh battery that supports 18W wired and 9W reverse charging. Xiaomi ships the phone with a 22.5W brick. MIUI 12.5, based on Android11, runs on the Redmi 10 hardware.
The shell is plastic, painted in holographic Sea Blue, muted Carbon Gray, and pure Pebble White shades. On the side, we find a side-facing thumbprint reader hiding inside the display. Four lenses, a 50MP wide, 8MP ultrawide, and two 2MP sensors for portrait and macro shots are housed inside an accented camera crater.
Speakers are still mono-firing. Plus, you get a 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD slot. Xiaomi offers the Redmi 10 in three flavors — 4GB+64GB, 4GB+128GB, and 6GB+128GB. The series has already been featured in a retail store, so the formal launch shouldn’t be far off.
