Xiaomi Redmi A1 Goes Official; Hot Design, High-efficiency SoC, and Clean Android 12 Skin

Xiaomi's Redmi A1, after a long string of teasers and leaks, is officially out in the wild. As the name implies, it's the first-ever phone in Redmi's newborn A-series roster. The phone has a dashing, almost premium-looking finish with its leatherback texture.

Redmi A1 comes in three soft pastel shades Black, Light Blue, and Light Green. Unlike the more punchier and vivid shades of Xiaomi's Redmi Note 11 lineup, the colors on the new series are minimal and pleasant to look at. Plus, the textured chassis helps with a comfortable grip. Apart from design, it has several decent specs worth pointing out.

To Start things off, Redmi A1 has a near-stock Android 12 user interface. It appears that Redmi has decided to use a clean Android 12 instead of MIUI 13 for its operating system. It's lightweight, smoother to run, and needs less RAM. The Android experience is full-fledged, unlike the "Android 12 Go" you see with most entry-segment phones these days.

The processor inside Redmi A1 is MediaTek's Helio A22 pairing up with a 2GB high-speed LPDDR4X memory. The Xiaomi A new model is prebuilt with a 32GB storage room, but you can expand it up to 512GB via microSD. The graphics are PowerVR-GPU controlled.

For optics, it uses a Dual-lens system with an 8MP primary plus an unspecified assistive sensor inside. The front shooter uses a 5MP sensor. Redmi A1 boasts a 5000mAh battery, and 10W power support, claiming 30 hours of video playback and up to 30 days of standby time. It weighs just over 192 grams.

On the front of Xiaomi's entry-price A1, a dewdrop notch bleeds into a 6.52-inch screen. The Resolution is HD+ (720 x 1600 pixels) with 400 nits brightness and a 120Hz touch sampling rate. Redmi A1 still uses the old Micro-USB port.
