Xiaomi launched the Redmi A5 in Pakistan today. As reflected by its price tag, it’s a budget phone meant to compete in the entry-level segment. Although it belongs in the affordable category, the phone’s design is relatively premium, especially that Sandy Gold finish.

Endurance and display seem to be the main priorities for this newcomer. Redmi A5 comes with a massive 6.88” IPS display. It’s a notch-style panel with standard brightness and a 120Hz peak refresh rate. The display should be smooth and responsive, though it’s locked at a 720p resolution.

The variant that showed up in the Pakistani market has up to 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The chipset running it is a budget-focused Unisoc T7250 (12nm) SoC with only a 1.8GHz clock speed. It can handle basic tasks and light gaming, but nothing too CPU-heavy.

Redmi A5 brings a light Android 15 Go Hyper OS software to support minimal hardware. So, in theory, the user experience and animations should be smooth with its 120Hz display and Unisoc T7250 SoC. As far as the Xiaomi rate list is concerned, this phone is competitive and affordable.

Not only is its software light, but Redmi A5 promises two years of OS support, keeping the device up-to-date till Android 17. It’s great to finally see long-term software support trickle down to Xiaomi’s budget devices. The company even guarantees up to 36 months of “Like-New” out-of-the-box software experience.

Redmi A5 has strong battery endurance. The new handset wields a 5200mAh battery, expected to deliver a full-day run with moderate usage. The company says that this power pack has 1000 Charge cycles, which should help maintain the phone’s battery health if you plan to use the device for the long term.

The charging will be slow, and it might take up to two hours for a full recharge due to its limited 15W input. The A5’s 8MP selfie cam is modest, albeit slightly better than Redmi A4’s 5MP shooter. But the rear camera has been demoted to 32MP. This handset also has a side-mounted fingerprint ID. Redmi A5 (4/64GB) costs Rs. 22,999 and the higher-end (4/128GB) variant retails at Rs. 26,999 in Pakistan.
